SysTech completed an upgrade to an ambient weld smoke collection system with the supply and installation of five (5) Donaldson Torit® dust collectors at a heavy equipment manufacturing/assembly facility in Pennsylvania. This facility primarily welds pieces together and contacted us to filter and return the contaminated air back into the facility.

Ambient weld smoke collection systems
Welding is a crucial part of metal working applications where over exposure to these fumes can pose health risks to the workers and the environment. By extracting and filtering out the unwanted particulates, the clean air can be returned into the facility while maintaining a
positive building pressure. In this case, the ambient system saved the expenses for 105,000 CFM of make-up air, as well as a continual savings to heat the workspace during cold weather months.
The project scope encompassed replacing the old dust collectors with new Donaldson Torit
cartridge dust collectors, Cincinnati industrial exhaust fans, outlet silencers, expansion joints
and exterior duct while retaining interior duct layout with supply grills.
Equipment List:
• (5) Donaldson ® Torit® Downflo® DFE 4-32 Cartridge Dust Collectors
• (5) Cincinnati Fan Model HDBI-330
• (5) 80 dBA discharge silencers
• (5) Fan Inlet and Discharge Industrial flex connectors
• (5) Custom Built Electrical Control Panels with Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) and provisions for monitoring and
automatically cleaning the filters.
• External duct and fittings.
Key Equipment Details:
Donaldson Torit® DFE 4-32 weld smoke collectors were fitted with Ultra-Web Cartridge Filters and Donaldson iCue™ Connected Filtration Technology to provide real-time analytics by continuously tracking equipment performance details, actionable insights, and alerts which were directed to the clients personalized dashboard.
The Cincinnati Exhaust Fans were Arrangement 4, with efficient backwardly inclined wheels, and 75 HP motors suitable for VFD operation.
Two (2) HDBI-330 Cincinnati Exhaust Fans, equipped with 80 dBA Discharge Silencers and inlet/outlet flex connectors.

Services after the start-up:
Following installation, field service personnel verified that the fans were operating below the site’s permissible noise criteria.
Summary:
The project was fast paced, concluded in 4 weeks with mechanical and electrical crews working concurrently. System upgrade was a success with the client very happy with the results.
